Beware of Toy Recalls When Buying Toys

When you are shopping for toys, it is important to make sure that you know which toys are safe to purchase and which ones are not safe. Many toys in stores have been recalled but the stores continue to shelf them. If you have not been keeping up with the news and the toy recall list, then you could purchase some cool toys that your children will love but they might turn out to contain some toxic, harmful materials. You need to be very careful when purchasing toddlers toys or toys for babies in particular because a tiny amount of toxic substance in toys can harm them.

It is sad that toxic toys are still sold in stores across the country, despite new laws that are there to protect kids from harmful toys. Toy safety is an important issue that parents cannot ignore. Although most toys on store shelves are safe, there continues to be some toys that pose a significant amount of safety hazards to small kids. With that fact in mind, parents and child care providers need to remain vigilant in order to prevent toy-related deaths and injuries. With more information, the scope of unsafe toys has been widened to include previously thought of as safe toys such as those labeled as phthalate-free. It is true that even some products labeled phthalate-free contain the dangerous chemical.

While toy manufacturers should quickly recall products that are considered unsafe and provide parents the information they need so that they will be informed enough to purchase safe toys for their kids, some of them just do not. You might have heard of many toy recalls on TV but there are a lot more toy recalls that do not make it to the news. Therefore, parents may not be aware that they are unsafe to use or buy. The government agency charged with keeping toys safe called The Consumer Product Safety Commission have put out alerts and information on toy safety but there are still lots of manufacturers that ignoring warnings and still sell toys laden with toxic substances. The Consumer Product Safety Commission cannot do much about existing toys that are already out on the shelves.

If you think you have a hazardous toy or any unsafe product, you should report the incident to the CPSC by calling a toll-free Consumer Hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270).
